Retail · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Our 95 user wholesale operation runs on it

The free Individual edition ran my side business until it stopped being a side business. The point of sale option feeds the same database as everything else. It does what the expensive names do, quietly and cheaper.

Pros

Native SA VAT and SARS alignment; bills of materials for light assembly

Working well for our 25 person team

Support is a Johannesburg number and the person answering knows the product cold. Data conversions from Pastel come across with history intact.

Pros

Proper SQL database stability

Mixed feelings after 7 years

The features punch up, the polish stays home. Report customisation beyond the standard set takes patience.

Pros

Good but not perfect for our Pietermaritzburg team

The features punch up, the polish stays home. The mobile story is thin, this is desk software. The point of sale option feeds the same database as everything else.

Cons

Brand recognition lags the product

Great engine, modest polish

Good software with a smaller ecosystem around it. Remote access means the hosted option or remote desktop. The point of sale option feeds the same database as everything else.

Bills of materials for light assembly

Cons

Smaller consultant ecosystem

Technology · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Frustrating experience for our 35 person team

Support closed at five and our crisis started at six. We moved for ecosystem, not for features, and paid more for less depth.

Cons

Accountants unfamiliar with it

South Africa Used for 2+ years

Good but not perfect for our Mbombela team

After 5 years the value is proven and the quirks familiar. The interface is functional Windows fare, no more. The price per user embarrasses the equivalent tier at the big names.

Pros

Proper SQL database stability; landed costs on imports

Cons

Functional, dated interface

Mostly happy in Umhlanga, a few gripes

We rate it highly and explain it often. User level security keeps the sales floor out of the ledger.

Cons

Functional, dated interface

Happy customer in Johannesburg

Support is a Johannesburg number and the person answering knows the product cold. The point of sale option feeds the same database as everything else. Multi warehouse stock stays accurate because the transactions force discipline.

Good but not perfect for our Richards Bay team

A strong engine wearing modest clothes. Fewer accountants know it, so onboarding a new bookkeeper takes explaining. The point of sale option feeds the same database as everything else.

Solid choice for our Pretoria business

Our feature request made it into a release within the year, try that with the giants. Landed cost handling spreads freight and duties properly on imports. Year end runs without the consultant visit our old package required.

Pros

Free single user edition

Cons

Brand recognition lags the product

The free Individual edition ran my side business until it stopped being a side business. Multi warehouse stock stays accurate because the transactions force discipline. Stock heavy SA businesses should evaluate it before paying ERP money.
