Happy with the bookkeeping, less happy with the bill. Report layouts beyond the standard ones need the forms designer and patience. The GL is strict in the best way, it forces clean processing habits.

There is a Pastel consultant ten minutes from us and that changes everything. Multi company support means our two entities live side by side cleanly. User permissions are granular enough that the juniors only see what they should.

The general ledger structure is exactly how accounting should be done. Processing speed on a local machine beats waiting for a browser every time. Solid, familiar and everywhere. That combination is hard to beat.

VAT processing at 15 percent is baked in and the reports line up with SARS. Support through our local business partner is a phone call, not a ticket queue. The install base alone makes it the sensible choice here.

We rate the engine highly and the interface far less. Year end procedures look scary the first time but the wizard walks you through it.

It is not glamorous but the trial balance is right every single month. Supplier and customer ageing reports are exactly what a credit controller needs. Data integrity has been flawless for us, 5 years without a corruption.
