Very powerful, and it makes you earn that power. Upgrades between versions are mini projects with consulting hours attached.

Serial and lot tracking that works

Cons

Interface feels dated

Agriculture · 500+ employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

Runs our 520 user operation end to end

A capable ERP that gives back exactly what you put into the implementation. Upgrades between versions are mini projects with consulting hours attached. Every module posts to one general ledger so the numbers always agree.

Pros

Serial and lot tracking that works; granular user security

Cons

Implementation is a genuine project

7 April 2026

Wholesale · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Solid choice for our Potchefstroom business

The retail POS at the counter feeds the same ledger as everything else. Would we choose it again? We did, for our second company.

Technology · 201–500 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Working well for our 220 person team

Our reseller in Bloemfontein knows our setup personally, that relationship is gold. Sage Intelligence gives the exco their monthly pack straight from the ledger. It absorbed a 40 percent growth year without breaking stride.

Pros

Granular user security

Mining · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Doing the job for us in Umhlanga

Being able to pull anything out of SQL means no report is impossible. Local product, local support, proper depth. Recommended.

Pros

One ledger across every module; procurement approval workflows

Cons

Performance tuning needed as data grows

6 September 2025

Technology · 500+ employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Exactly what our 750 person business needed

We evaluated the international ERPs and the local pricing and support won. The modular licensing meant we bought what we needed and added later. Approval workflows in procurement stopped orders nobody authorised.

Cons

Custom reports need SQL skills or partner hours

South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Good decision for a 22 person company

The procurement module ended the era of surprise supplier invoices. Sage Intelligence gives the exco their monthly pack straight from the ledger.

Agriculture · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Mostly happy in Polokwane, a few gripes

A capable ERP that gives back exactly what you put into the implementation. Licensing changes over the years have made cost planning harder.

Pros

Granular user security

Cons

Needs proper server infrastructure

31 March 2025

Retail · 500+ employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Doing okay for our 600 person setup

Very powerful, and it makes you earn that power. You need a proper server and IT discipline, this is not plug and play. Credit control workflows chase debtors before humans remember to.

Pros

POS option feeding the same ledger; handles growing transaction volumes

Cons

Consulting costs are part of ownership

Group Accountant · Makhubela Hardware and Sons

30 March 2025

Retail · 201–500 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Decent fit for a 260 person company

Good system, but understand you are buying a project not a product. Report writing beyond the standard set means paying your partner or learning SQL. Every module posts to one general ledger so the numbers always agree.

Cons

Needs proper server infrastructure

4 March 2025

Healthcare · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Slow performance as our data grew

The product may be fine, our implementation certainly was not. A version upgrade broke our custom reports and rebuilding them cost real money.

Cons

Simple changes always need paid consulting. Upgrades broke customisations repeatedly

Without a good partner you are stranded

The product may be fine, our implementation certainly was not. Simple changes need consultant hours, nothing is ever just a setting.

Pros

Multi warehouse and multi branch support

Cons

Needed a DBA just to stay responsive. Go live overruns came out of our pocket

3 October 2024

Wholesale · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

Working well for our 95 person team

Being able to pull anything out of SQL means no report is impossible. Pricing matrices handle our customer specific discounts without side letters. Stock takes went from a weekend shutdown to a rolling count. Would we choose it again? We did, for our second company.

Pros

Huge business partner network countrywide

Cons

Interface feels dated

We evaluated the international ERPs and the local pricing and support won. Sage Intelligence gives the exco their monthly pack straight from the ledger. Serious software that rewards a serious implementation.

Logistics · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Exactly what our 130 person business needed

Fixed assets, job costing and CRM in the same database ended our spreadsheet farm. Serial number tracking sorted our warranty claims process completely. ERP without the international price tag.

Pros

POS option feeding the same ledger

Cons

Implementation is a genuine project

Sello Patel

CFO · Vereeniging Manufacturing SA

17 December 2025

Manufacturing · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Frustrating experience for our 18 person team

Our partner oversold and under delivered, and Sage points back at the partner. Support tickets bounce between the partner and Sage while the branch waits. The go live slipped twice and the fixes came out of our budget, not theirs.

Cons

Upgrades broke customisations repeatedly

Tracey Nel

CFO

25 November 2025

Wholesale · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Our accountant in Pretoria recommended it, good call

The jump to a proper SQL database ended the data corruption era for us. Pricing matrices handle our customer specific discounts without side letters. The SQL foundation means our BI tool reads live data straight from the source. The step up from Pastel every growing business eventually needs.

Pros

Natural upgrade path from Pastel

Solid choice for our Gqeberha business

Our warehouse accuracy sits above 99 percent since the multi bin setup. VAT and SARS alignment is native, not an afterthought like the imports.

Pros

SQL Server foundation, no data black box
