The client portal makes us look enormous

It demands some bookkeeping knowledge and rewards it. It is UK first in every default, other jurisdictions are guests. Estimates convert to invoices and the portal shows clients their whole history.

Pros

Multiple currencies supported

Cons

Assumes bookkeeping knowledge

Everything works, nothing costs, still suspicious

The free tier is not a demo, it is the whole product for smaller books. Purchase receipts forward by email straight into the inbox for capture. The tagging rules engine is genuinely clever, it handles our regular suppliers untouched. Recommended for every simple UK entity we handle.

Pros

Clever bank tagging rules; multiple currencies supported

Cons

UK defaults everywhere

Happy customer in Polokwane

The VAT return files to HMRC directly and has never once been queried. It never nags, never upsells mid task, never surprises the debit order. Recurring invoices and payment reminders run without attention.

Cons

UK defaults everywhere

Serving our Mossel Bay operation well

The client portal with our branding makes a two person firm look like a proper operation. It never nags, never upsells mid task, never surprises the debit order. Recurring invoices and payment reminders run without attention. The most rational software spend in our practice: nearly none.

Pros

Branded client portal on invoices; power User costs almost nothing yearly

Doing okay for our 4 person setup

The product is stronger than it looks, and it looks like 2012. The interface is functional and firmly unfashionable. Reports cover the accounts an accountant needs at year end.

Pros

Clever bank tagging rules

Mostly happy in Centurion, a few gripes

It demands some bookkeeping knowledge and rewards it. It never nags, never upsells mid task, never surprises the debit order.

Pros

Proper double entry underneath; power User costs almost nothing yearly

Good but not perfect for our Benoni team

Capable software that expects you to meet it halfway. Some workflows take three clicks where rivals take one.

Pros

No upsells or nags

Good but not perfect for our Johannesburg team

Capable software that expects you to meet it halfway. Ledger size limits eventually push everyone to Power User, which is fair. The interface is functional and firmly unfashionable.

Pros

Free tier is the complete product

A quiet workhorse for 10 years now

As a bookkeeper doing UK work from Pietermaritzburg, the price lets me quote clients fees they cannot refuse. Recurring invoices and payment reminders run without attention. The value is so good it feels like a loophole.

Pros

Free tier is the complete product; branded client portal on invoices

Serving our Gqeberha operation well

Ten years of my company history sits in it, intact and searchable. The API let us automate our monthly recurring billing completely. Unfashionable and unbeatable.

Still glad we chose it, 2 years later

Serving our Polokwane operation well

As a bookkeeper doing UK work from Sandton, the price lets me quote clients fees they cannot refuse. Document storage keeps every invoice PDF attached to its transaction. For UK books on a budget nothing else comes close.

I have used it for 8 years for my UK company and paid only the small Power User fee. Underneath the plain screens is a proper double entry ledger that satisfies accountants. Recommended for every simple UK entity we handle.

Solid choice for our Vereeniging business

Our practice runs 10 small UK client files on QuickFile and the software bill is nearly zero. Recurring invoices and payment reminders run without attention. The most rational software spend in our practice: nearly none.
