Not there yet for complex pay structures

Pay day and the site was down, that is the one day it can never happen.

Cons

Feature roadmap moves slowly. Downtime has landed on pay day

Mostly happy in Durban, a few gripes

Good simple product, just know its limits before committing. You cannot customise the payslip layout much at all.

Cons

No department cost splitting

Good but not perfect for our Somerset West team

We like it, though we keep a spreadsheet next to it for the odd calculations. The browser session times out faster than I would like mid capture. The EMP201 figures are on screen when I need them for eFiling.

Pros

Guided pay run anyone can follow

moved from desktop pastel payroll, no regrets

For a standard payroll it is excellent, our edge cases needed workarounds. Bulk changes across many employees still mean editing one at a time. The leave module means my staff request days in the app, not in the passage.

Pros

Real time payslip calculations; great entry price for micro employers

Perfect for a small George employer

I ran December pay from a guest house in the Berg, that flexibility is real. The tiers by headcount are clear, you always know what growth will cost. Every plan includes unlimited companies and users, which is unheard of at this price. Payroll went from monthly dread to a fifteen minute task.

Pros

Free 30 day demo company; iRP5s generated at year end

Mostly happy in Midrand, a few gripes

It suits our small setup, though I can see the ceiling from here. The employee self service is more basic than the marketing suggests. The browser session times out faster than I would like mid capture.

Pros

Unlimited companies and users on every tier; free 30 day demo company

Cons

Payslip layout is barely customisable

Runs payroll for all 25 of my clients from one login

Moved off desktop payroll in July and the year end was suddenly a non event.

Cons

Employee self service is basic

Exactly what our 7 person business needed

UIF submissions to the Department go automatically, one thing I never think about. The EMP201 figures are on screen when I need them for eFiling. Small business payroll finally done the modern way.

Pros

Real time payslip calculations

Technology · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Good decision for a 14 person company

Tax changes land in the product overnight and I never install anything. It works fine on my phone browser when I am away from the desk. Loading our history from the old system went better than expected. Start with the demo company, you will see quickly.

Pros

IRP5s generated at year end; leave management included

Serving our Mbombela operation well

We pay weekly wages and monthly salaries side by side without any drama. PAYE, UIF and SDL are always current with SARS because the cloud updates itself.

Pros

Legislative updates happen automatically in the cloud

Solid choice for our Worcester business

The real time calculation shows me the net pay effect before I commit anything. Loading our history from the old system went better than expected. I recommend it to every small employer who asks me.

Pros

Legislative updates happen automatically in the cloud

Cons

Bulk employee changes are tedious

Food & Beverage · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Good decision for a 28 person company

Tax changes land in the product overnight and I never install anything. The ACB file loads into FNB business banking and the whole run pays in one batch. The leave module means my staff request days in the app, not in the passage.

Pros

Runs anywhere with a browser

Cons

Session timeouts during long captures

Solid choice for our Pietermaritzburg business

For a micro business in Rustenburg the entry price makes proper payroll a no brainer. New tax year opened by itself, correct tables, zero downloads. Honestly the easiest software decision we made this year.

Pros

Runs anywhere with a browser; guided pay run anyone can follow

Cons

Bulk employee changes are tedious

Doing the job for us in Durban

Leave requests and balances live in the same place as the payslip now. Loading our history from the old system went better than expected. PAYE, UIF and SDL are always current with SARS because the cloud updates itself.

Pros

No installs, no update downloads, ever

Serving our Potchefstroom operation well

The demo company convinced me before I loaded a single real employee. The tiers by headcount are clear, you always know what growth will cost. Small business payroll finally done the modern way.

Ticket support can take days

Decent fit for a 7 person company

Easy to run, harder to get deep information out of. Reporting is thin, beyond the standard set you export and build it yourself.

Pros

Clear headcount based pricing in rand

Cons

Ticket support can take days
