Still glad we chose it, 5 years later

Our bureau in Pretoria runs 10 UK client payrolls on it and pay day has never once slipped. New tax year updates arrive seamlessly with the rates already right. Our bureau would not run without it.

Pros

Statutory pay correct first time; seamless new tax year updates

The cloud move made serving UK clients easier

Great software navigating its own cloud migration with mixed grace. Support waits stretched during the transition rush.

Pros

HMRC recognised RTI that never fails

Cons

UK and Irish legislation only

South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Mostly happy in Boksburg, a few gripes

The engine is flawless, the era change around it less so. Support waits stretched during the transition rush. It is UK and Irish legislation only, an SA employer needs local software.

Pros

Polished payslip layouts

Cons

Desktop retirement forces migration

Serving our eMalahleni operation well

The pension submissions to NEST and Smart go automatically after every run. New tax year updates arrive seamlessly with the rates already right. Journal exports post into Xero and FreeAgent for the clients on cloud books.

Serving our Roodepoort operation well

CIS handling for construction clients works properly, which UK software often fumbles. The employee app shows payslips, P60s and leave without a single email from us. If you serve UK clients from SA, this is the standard for a reason.

Pros

Client portals for approvals

From three clients to 10, same software

Great software navigating its own cloud migration with mixed grace. The price per client is low enough that small employers stay profitable to serve.

Pros

Polished payslip layouts

Cons

Cloud pricing needs a calculator quote

Doing the job for us in Pretoria

We process UK payroll for British accounting firms and BrightPay is the tool of that trade. Journal exports post into Xero and FreeAgent for the clients on cloud books.

pension submissions filed while we sleep

Year end P60s across the whole client book took an afternoon. Furlough era complexity was handled quickly, which earned lasting trust.

Good but the calculator quote raised eyebrows

We love the product and squint at the new pricing model. Our quote for the cloud came in higher than the old desktop licence, noticeably. Desktop dies with the 2025 to 26 tax year and not everyone is ready.

Pros

Client portals for approvals; statutory pay correct first time

Cons

Cloud pricing needs a calculator quote

Good but not perfect for our Knysna team

After 4 years of desktop comfort the cloud move asks patience of us. The calculator based cloud pricing makes budgeting a guessing game until the quote lands. HMRC recognition means submissions just work, no middleware, no prayers.

Cons

UK and Irish legislation only

Excellent payroll, cloud pricing is a mystery box

Excellent for UK work, and obviously it does nothing for SA payrolls. It is UK and Irish legislation only, an SA employer needs local software. Furlough era complexity was handled quickly, which earned lasting trust.

Statutory pay correct first time; specialist support that answers fast

Our accountant in Knysna recommended it, good call

The bureau licence covering unlimited employers is the best value in payroll anywhere. The client portal lets UK employers approve timesheets in their own morning. The employee app shows payslips, P60s and leave without a single email from us. Worth every pound of the licence, and it is not many pounds.

Pros

Journal export to Xero and FreeAgent; statutory pay correct first time

Cons

Some workflows smoother on desktop still

The forced cloud migration landed in our busiest quarter. Tickets during the migration window took days instead of hours.
