Bureau Manager

23 November 2024

Accounting · 1–10 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Mostly happy in Knysna, a few gripes

Excellent for UK work, and obviously it does nothing for SA payrolls. Our quote for the cloud came in higher than the old desktop licence, noticeably. The price per client is low enough that small employers stay profitable to serve.

Pros

Auto enrolment with major UK providers; batch processing across employers

Cons

Cloud pricing needs a calculator quote

Working well for our 4 person team

The bureau licence covering unlimited employers is the best value in payroll anywhere. The price per client is low enough that small employers stay profitable to serve.

Support that answers like specialists

CIS handling for construction clients works properly, which UK software often fumbles. Batch processing runs a dozen small employers before the first coffee. The awards on their website are earned, we would add one.

Pros

Journal export to Xero and FreeAgent

Happy customer in Paarl

We onboarded a new UK client book of thirty employers in a fortnight. Journal exports post into Xero and FreeAgent for the clients on cloud books. The employee app shows payslips, P60s and leave without a single email from us.

Pros

CIS for construction clients; journal export to Xero and FreeAgent

Cons

Some workflows smoother on desktop still

Doing okay for our 40 person setup

The engine is flawless, the era change around it less so. Migration of multi year client history to the cloud needed careful checking.

Cons

History migration needs checking

Doing okay for our 22 person setup

We love the product and squint at the new pricing model. The calculator based cloud pricing makes budgeting a guessing game until the quote lands. The client portal lets UK employers approve timesheets in their own morning.

Cons

Cloud pricing needs a calculator quote

A quiet workhorse for 4 years now

The support team answers like payroll specialists because they are. New tax year updates arrive seamlessly with the rates already right. If you serve UK clients from SA, this is the standard for a reason.

Expected better, Polokwane customer

Transition support did not match the product's usual standard. Training the team on the cloud workflows cost a week we had not budgeted.

Pros

Mixed feelings after 3 years

Excellent for UK work, and obviously it does nothing for SA payrolls. Desktop dies with the 2025 to 26 tax year and not everyone is ready. New tax year updates arrive seamlessly with the rates already right.
