Expected better, East London customer

The product may be fine, our partner experience certainly was not. Go live slipped twice and the fees for the slippage landed on us. A partner developer left and took the knowledge of our customisations with him.

Cons

Partner dependency with no easy exit. Per user pricing stings at scale

Mostly happy in Umhlanga, a few gripes

The product is excellent, the journey to it is a project with a capital P. Getting SA specific bank integration working needed a third party connector. The out of the box reports are average, Power BI is where reporting actually happens.

Pros

Dimensions beat cost centre hacks; strong SA partner channel

Cons

Premium versus Essentials is a hard call

Warehouse, finance and sales in one honest system

The finance team lives in Excel and the two way integration means they never fight the system. Our partner customised the sales order screen without breaking a single update since.

Pros

Two way Excel integration; proper inventory costing methods

Our Knysna office gave up on it

For our size the overhead never justified itself. Go live slipped twice and the fees for the slippage landed on us. The per user cost at 18 users makes the CFO wince quarterly.

Cons

Budget overruns with shared blame

No complaints after 2 years

Power BI dashboards read the live data, so our exco pack builds itself overnight. The Excel integration is two way, edit a journal in a sheet and publish it back. Reporting via Power BI replaced a full time spreadsheet job. It is the last ERP decision we plan to make for a decade.

Pros

Monthly updates, no upgrade projects

Cons

Out of the box reports are average

Exactly what our 160 person business needed

As a manufacturer, the production orders and BOM costing fit how our floor actually works. Our partner customised the sales order screen without breaking a single update since. Every module posts to one ledger so the numbers agree by construction.

Pros

One ledger across finance, stock and sales; scales without replatforming

Our 260 user rollout landed on time and on budget

Our IT manager appreciates that patching and uptime are Microsoft's problem now. Recommended to every FD who asks, and they ask often.

Pros

Proper inventory costing methods; strong SA partner channel

Cons

Heavy screens for warehouse work

Doing okay for our 35 person setup

The product is excellent, the journey to it is a project with a capital P. The licensing matrix took our IT manager a weekend to truly understand.

Cons

Partner hours are part of the cost

Doing okay for our 40 person setup

Powerful, Microsoft flavoured, and priced accordingly. Updates are monthly and mostly smooth, but our customisations need testing each time.

Pros

Strong SA partner channel; team Members licences for light users

Cons

SA bank feeds need connectors

Rand quotes from local partners, no surprises

After 4 years the system has absorbed every growth spurt we threw at it. Dimensions replaced our old cost centre hacks with something the auditors actually praised. Our operations finally run on one version of the truth.

Pros

Proper inventory costing methods

Happy customer in Paarl

As a manufacturer, the production orders and BOM costing fit how our floor actually works. Multi company means our two entities close in the same afternoon. For SA mid market businesses the shortlist should start here.

Cons

Customisations need testing every update

Grew from 12 users to 110 without replatforming

The VAT setup was handled by our partner and the returns have reconciled cleanly ever since. Bank reconciliation with imported statements is quick and the matching learns.

Great ERP, real implementation effort

A genuinely strong ERP that demands respect during implementation. The out of the box reports are average, Power BI is where reporting actually happens.

Cons

Licensing model takes study

Exactly what our 110 person business needed

The VAT setup was handled by our partner and the returns have reconciled cleanly ever since. The audit trail is complete enough that our year end queries halved. Every module posts to one ledger so the numbers agree by construction. Worth the project, worth the licences, worth the change management.

Pros

One ledger across finance, stock and sales; monthly updates, no upgrade projects

Team Members licences at a fraction of the price cover all the approve and view users. Uptime has been effectively perfect for 2 years. Recommended to every FD who asks, and they ask often.

Doing the job for us in Cape Town

We moved our distribution business off Pastel Evolution and Business Central has been a level up in every direction. Multi company means our two entities close in the same afternoon. For SA mid market businesses the shortlist should start here.

Very capable once configured, and configuring took longer than promised. The AppSource marketplace had a payroll connector and an EDI add on ready to go.

Pros

Frustrating experience for our 110 person team

We bought an ERP and inherited a consulting relationship we cannot exit. Simple changes need a change request, a quote and a fortnight. Training the floor staff took months longer than the plan admitted.

Cons

Per user pricing stings at scale
