Food & Beverage · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Our 14 user rollout landed on time and on budget

Migrating history from our old system went better than anyone in the room predicted. Dimensions replaced our old cost centre hacks with something the auditors actually praised. Bank reconciliation with imported statements is quick and the matching learns. Worth the project, worth the licences, worth the change management.

Pros

Scales without replatforming; multi company consolidation

Manufacturing · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Decent fit for a 110 person company

Powerful, Microsoft flavoured, and priced accordingly. The licensing matrix took our IT manager a weekend to truly understand. Purchase approvals carry limits per role, so the buying discipline enforces itself.

Pros

Team Members licences for light users

Cons

Premium versus Essentials is a hard call

Mining · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

Grew from 12 users to 14 without replatforming

Very capable once configured, and configuring took longer than promised. Updates are monthly and mostly smooth, but our customisations need testing each time.

Migrated off Evolution and never looked back

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board. Getting SA specific bank integration working needed a third party connector.

Pros

Power BI reads live data natively

Cons

Implementation is a real project

Expected better, Durban customer

Our implementation doubled its budget and the blame had many parents. A partner developer left and took the knowledge of our customisations with him.

Cons

Partner dependency with no easy exit

Happy customer in Upington

Our partner in Roodepoort ran the implementation in four months and we went live without missing a shipping day. The Excel integration is two way, edit a journal in a sheet and publish it back. Our operations finally run on one version of the truth.

Pros

One ledger across finance, stock and sales; power BI reads live data natively

Our 350 user rollout landed on time and on budget

Very capable once configured, and configuring took longer than promised. The licensing matrix took our IT manager a weekend to truly understand. Multi company means our two entities close in the same afternoon.

Cons

Premium versus Essentials is a hard call

Power BI on live ERP data is a superpower

After 8 years the verdict is positive with real footnotes. The out of the box reports are average, Power BI is where reporting actually happens. Dimensions replaced our old cost centre hacks with something the auditors actually praised.

Mixed feelings after 2 years

It does everything, which means deciding what it should do took months. Partner hours are part of the running cost, ours bills every month for something.

Pros

Proper inventory costing methods; multi company consolidation

Cons

SA bank feeds need connectors

Doing the job for us in Sandton

We evaluated SAP and Sage side by side and the Microsoft ecosystem tipped it. The step up from SME accounting software is real and this is the sane way to take it.

Pros

Scales without replatforming

Disappointed after 3 years

The product may be fine, our partner experience certainly was not. Simple changes need a change request, a quote and a fortnight.

Cons

Partner dependency with no easy exit

Retail · 11–50 employees Namibia Used for 6–12 months

Working well for our 25 person team

The monthly release cadence means we get improvements without upgrade projects. The audit trail is complete enough that our year end queries halved. Dimensions replaced our old cost centre hacks with something the auditors actually praised. Pick a good partner and this system will not let you down.

Pros

Monthly updates, no upgrade projects; strong SA partner channel

Good decision for a 8 person company

We run 8 users across three branches and month end consolidations take a morning. Teams embedded approvals mean directors sign off from their phones.
