Systems Administrator

7 November 2025

Healthcare · 201–500 employees Botswana Used for 6–12 months

Doing okay for our 260 person setup

Powerful, Microsoft flavoured, and priced accordingly. Performance dips at month end when everyone hammers the same ledgers. Teams embedded approvals mean directors sign off from their phones.

Pros

Scales without replatforming

Cons

Heavy screens for warehouse work

Mining · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

Working well for our 30 person team

Our partner in Bloemfontein ran the implementation in four months and we went live without missing a shipping day. Teams embedded approvals mean directors sign off from their phones. Every module posts to one ledger so the numbers agree by construction.

Pros

Proper inventory costing methods; monthly updates, no upgrade projects

Cons

Implementation is a real project

Healthcare South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Mostly happy in eMalahleni, a few gripes

Good system that keeps reminding you it is licensed per user. Premium versus Essentials forced a decision we did not feel equipped to make. Purchase approvals carry limits per role, so the buying discipline enforces itself.

Pros

Scales without replatforming

Mining · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Doing okay for our 25 person setup

Very capable once configured, and configuring took longer than promised. The out of the box reports are average, Power BI is where reporting actually happens. Some screens feel heavy and a warehouse clerk notices the clicks.

Pros

Power BI reads live data natively; strong SA partner channel

Cons

Licensing model takes study

5 years in and still happy

We moved our distribution business off Pastel Evolution and Business Central has been a level up in every direction. Reporting via Power BI replaced a full time spreadsheet job.

Pros

Proper inventory costing methods

Wholesale · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Happy customer in Boksburg

Rand billing through the CSP agreement keeps procurement calm. The AppSource marketplace had a payroll connector and an EDI add on ready to go. New starters know Outlook and Excel already, so the learning curve is gentler than the last ERP.

Pros

Power BI reads live data natively

Healthcare · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Happy customer in Mbombela

We run 70 users across three branches and month end consolidations take a morning. Dimensions replaced our old cost centre hacks with something the auditors actually praised. Reporting via Power BI replaced a full time spreadsheet job.

Pros

Proper inventory costing methods

From Pastel chaos to a proper spine

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board. Premium versus Essentials forced a decision we did not feel equipped to make.

Pros

Dimensions beat cost centre hacks; one ledger across finance, stock and sales

Cons

Customisations need testing every update

Mostly happy in Cape Town, a few gripes

After 10 years the verdict is positive with real footnotes. Performance dips at month end when everyone hammers the same ledgers.

Pros

Team Members licences for light users; two way Excel integration

Cons

Out of the box reports are average

Our 30 user rollout landed on time and on budget

As a manufacturer, the production orders and BOM costing fit how our floor actually works. Recommended to every FD who asks, and they ask often.

Pros

Dimensions beat cost centre hacks

Cons

Licensing model takes study

Our 55 user rollout landed on time and on budget

A genuinely strong ERP that demands respect during implementation. The licensing matrix took our IT manager a weekend to truly understand.

South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Grew from 12 users to 75 without replatforming

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board. Getting SA specific bank integration working needed a third party connector. New starters know Outlook and Excel already, so the learning curve is gentler than the last ERP.

Pros

Two way Excel integration; appSource marketplace for add ons

Food & Beverage South Africa Used for 2+ years

Capable but licensing needs a spreadsheet

The product is excellent, the journey to it is a project with a capital P. Partner hours are part of the running cost, ours bills every month for something. Uptime has been effectively perfect for 3 years.

Pros

Monthly updates, no upgrade projects

A quiet workhorse for 3 years now

The finance team lives in Excel and the two way integration means they never fight the system. The audit trail is complete enough that our year end queries halved.

Solid choice for our Knysna business

The finance team lives in Excel and the two way integration means they never fight the system. Reporting via Power BI replaced a full time spreadsheet job. Purchase approvals carry limits per role, so the buying discipline enforces itself. Our operations finally run on one version of the truth.

Decent fit for a 750 person company

It does everything, which means deciding what it should do took months. The licensing matrix took our IT manager a weekend to truly understand. Every module posts to one ledger so the numbers agree by construction.

Food & Beverage · 201–500 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Our Ballito office gave up on it

The sales demo and the delivered reality were distant cousins. Simple changes need a change request, a quote and a fortnight. A partner developer left and took the knowledge of our customisations with him.

Pros

Approvals inside Teams and Outlook

Cons

Budget overruns with shared blame
