It does everything, which means deciding what it should do took months. The out of the box reports are average, Power BI is where reporting actually happens.
Pros
Scales without replatforming; appSource marketplace for add ons
Cons
Partner hours are part of the cost

Good system that keeps reminding you it is licensed per user. Getting SA specific bank integration working needed a third party connector.
Pros
Scales without replatforming
Cons
Licensing model takes study

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board.
Pros

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board. The out of the box reports are average, Power BI is where reporting actually happens. Purchase approvals carry limits per role, so the buying discipline enforces itself.
Pros
Strong SA partner channel

Powerful, Microsoft flavoured, and priced accordingly. Partner hours are part of the running cost, ours bills every month for something. Purchase approvals carry limits per role, so the buying discipline enforces itself.
Pros
Multi company consolidation
Cons
Out of the box reports are average

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board. Getting SA specific bank integration working needed a third party connector. Teams embedded approvals mean directors sign off from their phones.
Pros
Two way Excel integration

We are happy on it, though the total cost of ownership needed explaining to the board. Performance dips at month end when everyone hammers the same ledgers.

Our implementation doubled its budget and the blame had many parents. Simple changes need a change request, a quote and a fortnight.
Pros
Two way Excel integration
Cons
Per user pricing stings at scale

After 2 years the system has absorbed every growth spurt we threw at it. The audit trail is complete enough that our year end queries halved. Purchase approvals carry limits per role, so the buying discipline enforces itself. Recommended to every FD who asks, and they ask often.
Pros
Two way Excel integration; strong SA partner channel
Cons
Customisations need testing every update

We moved our distribution business off Pastel Evolution and Business Central has been a level up in every direction. The audit trail is complete enough that our year end queries halved. The step up from SME accounting software is real and this is the sane way to take it.
Pros
Approvals inside Teams and Outlook

Every customisation we paid for became a liability at update time. A partner developer left and took the knowledge of our customisations with him.
Pros
Power BI reads live data natively
Cons
Budget overruns with shared blame

Every customisation we paid for became a liability at update time. Go live slipped twice and the fees for the slippage landed on us.
Pros
Proper inventory costing methods
Cons
Change requests for simple things. Budget overruns with shared blame

For our size the overhead never justified itself. Simple changes need a change request, a quote and a fortnight.

Our partner in Springs ran the implementation in four months and we went live without missing a shipping day. The Excel integration is two way, edit a journal in a sheet and publish it back.
Pros
Scales without replatforming
Cons
Premium versus Essentials is a hard call

Very capable once configured, and configuring took longer than promised. Updates are monthly and mostly smooth, but our customisations need testing each time. Multi company means our two entities close in the same afternoon.

Approvals inside Teams and Outlook

Powerful, Microsoft flavoured, and priced accordingly. Inventory costing is finally real: FIFO where we need it, standard cost where we do not.

We moved our distribution business off Pastel Evolution and Business Central has been a level up in every direction. Multi company means our two entities close in the same afternoon. Our partner customised the sales order screen without breaking a single update since.
