Riaan Shabalala

Operations Director

21 July 2024

South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Mostly happy in Johannesburg, a few gripes

The capability is real and so is the learning curve. The interface is industrial, younger staff take time to warm to it. Financials sit native, no interface file between the floor and the ledger.

Pros

Local support in SA time; native SA VAT and statutory layer

Cons

Industrial interface, real learning curve

Mining · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

Our 20 user plant runs on it end to end

After 7 years we respect it deeply and curse it occasionally. The mobile story is functional rather than modern. WIP tracking ended the month end guess about half finished stock.

Pros

Job costing that tells the truth

Cons

Customisations complicate upgrades

Manufacturing · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Our accountant in Pietermaritzburg recommended it, good call

Job costing showed us which product lines actually earn their floor space. The training academy meant our new planner arrived already competent. It speaks factory, which imported ERPs mostly do not.

Pros

Job costing that tells the truth

Cons

Customisations complicate upgrades

Serving our Pretoria operation well

Our plant outside Polokwane runs planning, floor capture and dispatch on it daily. The proudly South African label is earned in the product.

Construction · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Good decision for a 75 person company

Bill of materials revisions finally match what engineering actually builds. Import costing spreads duties and freight properly across landed stock. Quality holds stop suspect batches from shipping automatically.

Pros

Training academy for staff pipeline; job costing that tells the truth

Cons

Industrial interface, real learning curve

Construction · 201–500 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Doing okay for our 260 person setup

Right tool for our plant, with honest overheads. Reporting beyond operations leans on Power BI or partners. The scheduling board shows the floor what reality allows, not what sales dreamed.

Cons

Industrial interface, real learning curve

The interface tested our younger staff

We were too light a user for a system this serious.

Not what we hoped for our Stellenbosch business

We were too light a user for a system this serious. Every request routed through the partner at partner rates.

Managing Director

Logistics · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Our 80 user plant runs on it end to end

Strong where it matters, dated where it shows. Licensing by module needs careful scoping up front.

Pros

Manufacturing depth from MRP to dispatch

Cons

Upgrades are projects

Food & Beverage South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Our accountant in Somerset West recommended it, good call

Our implementation partner has done our industry three times before us. VAT and statutory reporting come out locally correct by default. For SA manufacturers this is the serious local answer.

Cons

Module licensing needs careful scoping

Agriculture · 201–500 employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

No complaints after 4 years

MRP suggestions respect our lead times and the weak rand on imported inputs. Warehouse management keeps our two DCs honest to the unit. Our factory would not run without it, simple as that.

Pros

SQL base open to Power BI; recall grade lot and serial traceability

Cons

Office side modules feel secondary

The ERP our industry actually uses

It rewards investment and punishes casual adoption. Reporting beyond operations leans on Power BI or partners.

Let us down when it counted

Our upgrade year consumed budget and goodwill in equal measure. The upgrade broke customisations that took a quarter to rebuild.

Pros

Import costing for weak rand realities

Cons

Too heavy for light users. Partner rates on every request

Good but not perfect for our Somerset West team

A deep manufacturing system that dresses for the factory, not the boardroom. The mobile story is functional rather than modern. VAT and statutory reporting come out locally correct by default.
