14 July 2025

Hospitality · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Solid choice for our Cape Town business

We are 25 people and the monthly cost is less than a round of coffees. New tax year opened by itself, correct tables, zero downloads. It posts the salary journals through to Sage Accounting automatically.

Pros

Leave management included; great entry price for micro employers

Cons

Needs a stable internet connection

Hospitality · 1–10 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Frustrating experience for our 6 person team

We migrated from the desktop version and half our history came across wrong. Every feature request lands on a roadmap nobody can give dates for.

Pros

Journals post to Sage Accounting

Cons

Feature roadmap moves slowly. Support leans on help articles

Legal South Africa Used for 2+ years

Solid choice for our Potchefstroom business

Leave requests and balances live in the same place as the payslip now. The ACB file loads into Nedbank business banking and the whole run pays in one batch. It quietly does exactly what it promises every month.

Pros

ACB bank files for the major banks

Cons

Employee self service is basic

Unlimited companies changed my bookkeeping practice

Payslips hit staff email the moment I finalise, the WhatsApp questions stopped. Every plan includes unlimited companies and users, which is unheard of at this price. Small business payroll finally done the modern way.

Pros

ACB bank files for the major banks; journals post to Sage Accounting

Retail South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Good decision for a 30 person company

Tax changes land in the product overnight and I never install anything. The EMP201 figures are on screen when I need them for eFiling. I recommend it to every small employer who asks me.

Pros

IRP5s generated at year end

Doing the job for us in Richards Bay

My bookkeeper set it up remotely in an afternoon and handed me a working payroll. It posts the salary journals through to Sage Accounting automatically. Honestly the easiest software decision we made this year.

Pros

Great entry price for micro employers

Real Estate · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Perfect for a small Somerset West employer

As a first time employer I was terrified of PAYE and this held my hand through it. The ACB file loads into Absa business banking and the whole run pays in one batch. Payroll went from monthly dread to a fifteen minute task.

Pros

Great entry price for micro employers

Cons

Payslip layout is barely customisable

Legal · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 6–12 months

Doing okay for our 18 person setup

For a standard payroll it is excellent, our edge cases needed workarounds. Bulk changes across many employees still mean editing one at a time. The ACB file loads into Nedbank business banking and the whole run pays in one batch.

Food & Beverage · 1–10 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Does 90 percent of what we need

Mostly a pleasure, occasionally a shrug. Complex pay structures with multiple rate tables just do not fit.

Pros

Leave management included

Cons

No department cost splitting

South Africa Used for 1–2 years

The ACB file goes to Standard Bank and payday happens

UIF submissions to the Department go automatically, one thing I never think about. The audit trail shows who changed what, useful with two admins.

Technology · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for 2+ years

Doing okay for our 20 person setup

For a standard payroll it is excellent, our edge cases needed workarounds. The employee self service is more basic than the marketing suggests. It works fine on my phone browser when I am away from the desk.

Cons

Needs a stable internet connection

7 December 2024

Legal · 1–10 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Good decision for a 8 person company

Our accountant has her own access, checks the run monthly and we never email files around. For the price there is nothing to think about.

Pros

No installs, no update downloads, ever; leave management included

Construction & Trades · 51–200 employees South Africa Used for 1–2 years

Four stars, needs deeper reports

We like it, though we keep a spreadsheet next to it for the odd calculations. You cannot customise the payslip layout much at all.

Pros

Clear headcount based pricing in rand

Cons

Ticket support can take days

Good but not perfect for our Springs team

We like it, though we keep a spreadsheet next to it for the odd calculations. You cannot customise the payslip layout much at all. The ACB file loads into Standard Bank business banking and the whole run pays in one batch.

Pros

Runs anywhere with a browser; automatic UIF declarations

Cons

Reporting beyond the standard set is thin

Our accountant in Randburg recommended it, good call

As a first time employer I was terrified of PAYE and this held my hand through it. The ACB file loads into Capitec business banking and the whole run pays in one batch. Weekly, fortnightly and monthly cycles run side by side cleanly. If you are still installing payroll updates, you are working too hard.

Pros

Real time payslip calculations

Happy customer in Knysna

The pay run is a guided checklist, I literally cannot forget a step. It posts the salary journals through to Sage Accounting automatically.

Mostly happy in Mossel Bay, a few gripes

Mostly a pleasure, occasionally a shrug. Bulk changes across many employees still mean editing one at a time. Adding a new employee is a ten minute form and they are in the next run.

Pros

Free 30 day demo company; weekly and monthly cycles side by side

Cons

Healthcare · 11–50 employees South Africa Used for Less than 6 months

Mostly happy in Worcester, a few gripes

It handles the common cases beautifully and the uncommon ones not at all. The tiers by headcount are clear, you always know what growth will cost.

Cons

Employee self service is basic
